S&P boosts commercial radio performance
Commercial radio revenues have risen by 5.4% year-on-year to £148.9million for the third quarter.
Percentage changes across the board are better than those reported for Q2 this year, though actual revenues are less.
National revenues are up 7.7% since Q3 2006 to £81.5million.
Sales and promotions revenues saw record growth, rising 8% to £27.9million – the highest quarterly S&P revenues to date – an improvement on Q2 when revenues fell by £2million year-on-year.
However, local revenues in the third quarter fell 0.7% to £39.4% after a 1.2% rise in the Q2.
The figures for July-September 2007 show continued strength in radio, which has suffered from poor revenues in recent years.
Andrew Harrison, chief executive of RadioCentre, said the year has been a “turning point for the commercial radio industry”.
“Not only have we seen a record number of people tuning in but advertisers are really recognising the power of radio advertising,” he said.
